The first stage of a $200 million redevelopment program at Westfield Chermside opened on 19 October 2006. The centre has increased from 78 000 sqm to 110 000 sqm in gross area with a further 12 400 sqm to be added with the arrival of David Jones in August 2007. On completion of this stage Westfield Chermside will be Queensland’s largest shopping centre. The redeveloped centre has included an open-space market square area surrounded by an alfresco dining area comprised entirely of polished concrete.
